The first step to becoming a volunteer is to get cleared.
Santa Rosa City Schools has partnered with Be A Mentor to manage the volunteer clearance process. SRCS uses Be A Mentor Volunteer Management System (VMS) to make the process easy to complete and track.
Go to - Be A Mentor VMS
Input your email to fill out an initial application. This process will gather information for a background check and create your account.
Choose the level of clearance. During the online application process you will be asked to choose the level or levels of clearance you will need based on your anticipated involvement. Most of our volunteers only need level 1 clearance, for ‘School Site Volunteers’ and ‘Fieldtrip Chaperones.’ As a general rule our school does not request ‘Fieldtrip Drivers.’ You can also select level 2, if you would like to make yourself available to drive should the need arise. This level requires updating your clearance more often with current insurance information. You can read more about these levels at the district volunteer page here.
After creating your account, log in and follow the instructions to submit the required documentation.
Fingerprinting (paid for by the district)
TB Screening Assessment or current test results
Mandated Reporter Training
Once you have completed all items and are cleared, the school office will be notified.
Notes about fingerprinting: If you make an appointment through the district, the process is paid for by the district. You also have the option of getting your prints done independently. There is a list of other Live Scan locations available, linked here and in Be-A-Mentor. These locations will charge a rolling fee and possibly other fees (see list for details). Make sure to use the Live Scan form provided in Be-A-Mentor so that your print results are directed to the correct place when they are completed.
In addition, print, read, and sign the SRFACS Volunteer Guidelines Agreement and return it to the school office.
The purpose of this document is to acknowledge that you understand and agree to school guidelines for volunteering at SRFACS.
If you are unable to print the document, you can ask for a copy in the school office.
